    News

  1. How do I submit news?

If the news is already on the web somewhere, send the link to any of our correspondents -- ideally, to one who's based in that country; alternately, send the news link to ericlee@labourstart.org. If you think you will be able to find such news links on a regular basis, become a correspondent yourself.

  2. How do I become a correspondent?

Go to this page and fill in your details.

  3. But wait, what exactly does a correspondent do?

Correspondents add news links to our online database.

  4. I've written something (about a strike, for example) that's not available elsewhere on the web. How to I bring it to your attention?

Submit it using our Labour News Network -- it was designed for that purpose.

  5. Who decides what news stories make it to the 'top stories of the week' on top of LabourStart's front page?

LabourStart senior correspondents do. If you're a correspondent and you've posted a particularly noteworthy story, let us know. The same is true if you're just an ordinary reader -- maybe something you see towards the bottom of our page really does belong somewhat nearer the top.

  6. LabourStart isn't available in my language - why not?

Probably because no one has so far offered to help in the translation and collection of material. If you'd like to help, write to ericlee@labourstart.org and we'll get back to you. Keep in mind that what we need is not just the translation of our structure into your language, but a continuous flow of news.

  7. Mailing list

  8. How do I join your mailing list?

    Go here for details.

  9. How do I leave the list?

There are instructions on the bottom of every email we send out, telling you how to do this.

  10. My email address has changed. How do I change this on your mailing list?

You can't. You must unsubscribe and re-subscribe using your new address.

  11. Can I sign up my friends to your list?

No. This is an opt-in list; we really do want people to sign themselves up and don't want to mail our weekly newsletter to people who didn't ask for it.

  12. Other services

  13. How do I get your news headlines onto my website -- and what does it cost?

First of all, it's free. Second, go here to find out how to do this.

  14. I'd like to get one of those LabourStart web forums for my union. What do I need to do?

    Just drop us a line.

  15. How do I make LabourStart my home page?

We have the full details here.

  16. Behind the scenes

  17. How many people use this site?

First of all, before we answer that, please do read Eric Lee's 2001 article, "Lies, Damn Lies, Statistics -- and Website Statistics".

  18. So, who pays for all this?

All what? LabourStart is run on a shoestring. No one working on the project is actually paid for their work, so our main cost is web hosting. Our main sources of income are the money we receive from your donations and your purchases at the online, unionized bookshop, Powells.com. Other arrangements have been made for some of our language editions, which are sponsored both by trade union institutions and companies.

  19. I thought you had a partnership going with Amazon.com?

Amazon's not friendly to unions, so we ditched them. You should too.

  20. Do you accept advertising or paid sponsorships?

Yes, we do -- and we've had some very successful experiences in the past. Write to ericlee@labourstart.org and we'll get back to you.
